Breeding Programme
Whatever the purpose intended for a horse, the neccessary characteristics are constant:
-
Excellent conformation
-
Good movement
-
Workable temperament
Our mares are always chosen with these fundamental elements in mind.
Breeding choices
Choosing the appropriate mates for our mares starts in autumn when we peruse the breeding sites to find the right stallion to complement the strengths and weaknesses of a particular mare. We look at the stallion's results from performance tests and watch available videos. Most of our stallion choices are chosen from the Elite Stallions collection although we do occasionally select a stallion from another source if his profile fits with the mare in question.

Veterinary services

All our mares are bred by Artificial Insemination. This method removes many of the health risks and logistic problems of live cover. Plus, it gives us access to an almost limitless choice of some of the world's best bloodlines.
Our veterinary breeding services are provided by vets who are regulated in administering AI and who are familiar with large caseloads of stud work every year.
Foaling
The foaling season gets underway in spring and early summer. Mares are monitored throughout the pregnancy and kept as stress-free as possible to encourage healthy development of the foetus.

When a mare is close to foaling regular checks throughout the day and night combined with cctv monitoring ensure that we are able to observe the foal births and be on hand to tend to newborn foals.

Mare and foal are routinely checked by a veterinary surgeon within 24 hours of foaling.
